3rd Public Librarianship Symposium Library Buildings : planning and interior design

The historical-social process of transformation which is an inevitable aspect of the formation of the information society has impacts on public libraries too. This transformation has visible effects also in Türkiye where it affects public libraries as regards library users, buildings, personnel, budget and services and it places pressure on the libraries towards adapting to the process of transformation.

Public libraries need innovative spatial designs in order for them to appeal to the public and to become suitable for advanced use; to enable the personnel to offer effective services; and to be reconstructed as places which are appropriate for the aims and functions modern libraries. To address this issue, a conference with the theme of “Space Design at Libraries” will be held on May 8-10, 2013.

The symposium will feature keynote speeches, paper and poster presentations and other activities such as workshops, all of which are intended for the participation of scholars in the field of public librarianship, and of information professionals, to comprehensively explore the theme of spatial design in the context of public libraries, children’s libraries, youth libraries and mobile libraries, not only in Türkiye but also with reference to international practices.

in the context of Public Libraries, Children’s and Youth Libraries and Mobile Libraries. In addition to these subjects listed above, proposals offering other sub-headings related to spatial design at libraries will also be considered.
