The historical-social process of transformation which is an inevitable aspect of the formation of the information society has impacts on public libraries too. This transformation has visible effects also in Turkey where it affects public libraries as regards library users, buildings, personnel, budget and services and it places pressure on the libraries towards adapting to the process of transformation.

Public libraries need innovative spatial designs in order for them to appeal to the public and to become suitable for advanced use; to enable the personnel to offer effective services; and to be reconstructed as places which are appropriate for the aims and functions modern libraries. To address this issue, a conference with the theme of “Space Design at Libraries” will be held on May 8-10, 2013
